Exhibition: My Cat's Name is Jona
I am a certified K-12 art teacher with an additional 6-12 Earth science endorsement. I enjoy my career in education as I have an immense passion for teaching and learning. I have had the unique opportunity to teach both art and science. Currently, I teach ceramics full time at Kuna High School. For the last 15 years I have worked with the Van Go outreach program to bring art to rural schools around Idaho. I have also worked closely with the Mentoring Network to provide art opportunities to Idaho students. During my time as the ceramics teacher at Kuna High School I have increased the ceramic program from less than 100 students to over 800 schedule requests. In addition to developing a rigorous and popular art program, I led our school in an anti-bullying campaign. By developing a presentation with drama students and promoting anti-bullying messages throughout the school, This positive momentum created a school wide character development campaign called STRONGER. STRONGER is a set of values that was developed to foster a positive shift in school culture. This project was supported through school activities such as assemblies along with posters, t-shirts, and wristbands. STRONGER represents how young people may approach life and also prevent bullying.
